Kia’s decade-long dedication to quality has paid off this year, earning it first place for Initial Quality in the entire industry, including all luxury and non-luxury vehicles. Kia owners reported the fewest problems per 100 vehicles in first 90 days of ownership of all vehicles, according to J.D. Power & Associates survey. Although Kia outranked Porsche, BMW, Lexus, GM, Toyota, and Ford this year, it was not a total surprise to those who watch these surveys. Korean manufacturer Kia Motors, took top billing last year among non-luxury brands for its tremendous progress in quality for mechanical, styling, and fit and finish of vehicles such as the Optima sedan, Soul hatchback, Sportage SUV and Cadenza premium sedan.
Michelle Krebs, senior analyst at, says Kia has been over-delivering on value. “Kia demonstrates an automaker can deliver a top-notch vehicle in terms of quality with lots of features at a price that is accessible to the masses,” Forbes reports.

Hyundai models also scored well for Initial Quality, with Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Azera earning top awards in their categories. Hyundai Elantra, Santa Fe, Sonata and Tucson also ranked well.
